Falmouth
Falmouth is one of the Cape’s oldest resort towns. And, since Martha’s Vineyard is just a few miles across Vineyard Sound, the Island Queen Ferry is the best way to get there. So, upon your return from Martha’s Vineyard, stroll down the tree lined streets of this quintessential Cape Cod village. Historic Main Street offers a charming mixture of historic homes and buildings, one of a kind unique boutique shops, and restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisines for every budget. Savor the variety and pace of this lively sea side community and beautiful public beaches.
Rent a bike and hop on the Shining Sea Bikeway for a 10-mile scenic ride along the coastline, through marshes, along stretches of beaches and through Cape pines and cranberry bogs.
Falmouth is home to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Barnstable County Fair, The Falmouth Road Race, Falmouth Museums on the Green and Historic Highfield Hall & Gardens. During the summer months, Falmouth is home to the Cape Cod Baseball League's Commodores baseball team. It’s also the birthplace of Katharine Lee Bates who wrote the poem "American The Beautiful". For kids, there’s the Woods Hole Science Aquarium, the Carousel of Light, numerous ice cream & chocolate shops, and beaches in all of the historic villages of Falmouth.
Falmouth is the ideal base to explore all of Cape Cod. You can check out the giant sandy beaches of the National Seashore, the tall Atlantic Ocean cliffs of Truro or the vibrant and colorful atmosphere of Provincetown.
